SLT Minutes 3/17/2021
Present for the Meeting: Jean Kim, David Lee, Jennifer Ling, Denise Collin, Daren Moss, John Greggo, Adriana Grywacz-Zastaw, Joy Loew, Stella Xu, Adina Konheim, and parent observers
Updates on Sage learning:
Collapsed to two cohorts (A,B). 250-275 students in hybrid learning, but we only have around 150 students daily. Been in contact with students who aren’t showing up and guidance has been contacting parents letting them know that if they do not show up, they will be put into full remote.
Is there a protocol to make sure the students who have NX’s are resolving their grades? Mr. Greggo mentions the guidance councilors are addressing this so by June 30th. If an 8th grader does not resolve the NX by the end of summer, they are to repeat the 8th grade.
The possibility of another opt in period: Is it possible to open up some classes for 5 days a week if they meet the threshold capacity. Mr. Greggo mentions its possible but wants to wait for the principal meeting before confirming.
IEP CEP Goal:
Lowering the number of students who have related services by IEP related service recommendations. Goal is to lower it by 8 students. Ms. Loew mentions we may have already met this goal due to changes over the past few months. SLT decides to leave the numbers the same.
Parent Engagement Goal:
Target Population is All Students. Discussion on how to measure the engagement. Ms. Kim brings up the idea of incorporating a survey into the end of the newsletters. Another option brought up, is using the attendance from the workshops Sage has given. Mr. Moss brings up using the PTC data to show parental engagement.
Mr. Greggo mentions we are working with a company on building a school website that will track how many visitors the website gets. This will help get more data on how engaged the community is.
SLT decided to table the measure until next meeting. Ms. Konheim asks if we can pull the data from teacherreacher for the next meeting so we can have hard data on how many parents are engaged.
Mr. Greggo was able to pull up the total number of appointments made for both Spring and Fall Parent Teacher Conferences.
Ms. Loew brings up comparing the 2019 (pre-pandemic) vs 2020 Fall appointments to compare.
Ms. Ling recommends we pull the teacherreacher data and then break it down by grade for our baseline data.
Mr. Greggo goes over the dates for the state exams. The assessment windows are much longer as compared to the normal 3 days so that exams can be given to multiple cohorts.
Ms. Kim asks if there is an opt out option for parents. Mr. Greggo mentions that there is no FORMAL opt out, but you can refuse the right to take the exam.
Regents exams, Algebra I and Living Environment are still being given, but US History will not.
NYSED is still asking the Federal Government to allow a waiver to not use the Standardized testing.
Schools are not expected to ask students to come in to test. The parents can choose to have their fully remote students to come in and take the exam if they desire.
